Statement
Painting brings me a great sense of peace and my greatest desire in painting is to convey that same feeling of peace to others. To me water exemplifies peace and calm and I use it frequently in my work - especially the view of a beach or cityscape from across an expanse of water. These latter elements, beaches and cityscapes, are a major influence in my work and were a central part of my life growing up in Sao Paulo, Brazil. My use of warm colors and soft lines reflect the beauty of nature found throughout Brazil and the joy of life that Brazilians hold dear - qualities I have also found living in New Orleans.
While in Sao Paulo I studied oil painting under Inga Matz and at the Sao Paulo Academy of Art for many years. After numerous successful exhibits, I opened a studio and gallery where I could paint and present my work along with other accomplished artists. I came to New Orleans in 1984, as a member of the Brazilian Consular Corps, and spent my free time painting and studying art at the New Orleans Academy of Fine Art. I later married and started a family and have called New Orleans my home ever since.
The style of my painting ranges from abstract, to still life, to landscape. My medium is acrylic on canvas having studied the technique with the late New Orleans artist, Ann Cooper. I have shown my art at various exhibitions in New Orleans including a French Quarter gallery and a solo show at the World Trade Center. I hope that you enjoy my work as much as I have enjoyed bringing it to you.
